TV Work

Over the years we have been lucky enough to be invited to have our work featured on several TV shows. We worked closely with Lawrence LLewelwyn Bowen on a BBC Changing Rooms – Inside Out where we had to sand, fill, stain and lacquer an existing and really bad condition floor, turning it from a mess into a shiny black floor. As usual, other trades got in our way and we had the added pressure of having our every move filmed! But still we completed the job and even though I'm not really into having boards coloured as black as possible, it did look pretty stunning – if a little unsuitable for a young family! Lawrence was pretty chuffed with the end result, although I'm sure I saw strands of his hair in the lacquer!

We were contacted by Channel 5’s ‘The House Doctor’ regarding a floor that they wanted to sand and colour. This was a real eye opener, as it was all pretty much a mad rush. I understand that this programme is about making your house more saleable in a very short period of time, but to be honest, how do you sand, colour and apply 3 coats of lacquer in a day? All good fun I know but the job still took 2 days, even with Anne-Marie telling me to make it dry faster!! It has been said before that I'm full of hot air!

The Block was a real experience, mainly because we were working for a …… well perhaps I should not say, but put it this way, if it had of been a real client we would have terminated our contract the first day that we got on-site and found both the occupants asleep, with not even enough space to set our tools, up let alone fit a floor!! After some convincing, we did stay and fitted a beautiful Kahrs black walnut floor throughout the house. We even did the 3 flights of stairs which looked absolutely stunning. It was a shame that this series didn’t catch on as it seemed like a great idea.
Property Ladder
You could blink and miss this one! We sanded and sealed a lovely wide antique pine floor in an attic conversion in Kemp Town. The next I knew about it, was when I was watching the Property Ladder and up came a section on our floors! Great, the camera really did show how good the boards looked, it’s a shame we didn't get the chance to feature on TV, but even so, they made a fuss about it, and even went on to say something about making sure the job is done professionally as this one had been. As we all know, a badly sanded floor will detract from the value and salability of a property!
Hollywood hasn’t called me yet, but I can always live in hope that there will be a role for a wooden flooring anorak soon!
